![]() They can call themselves FYI if they wish, of course, even if it’s not used officially.ĭenver (DEN) isn’t DIA, but local media refers to it as DIA. However when Fresno Air Terminal (FAT) changed its name to Fresno Yosemite International, to market the airport as a gateway to Yosemite National Park, they were unsuccessful in getting their code changed to FYI. While it’s difficult to change an airport code, not only complying with the rules above but also making sure the code isn’t taken, it’s something that’s certainly been done. The FAA code, used for general aviation, is IWA. The FAA has 3 letter codes that are usually the same as IATA codes, but in the case of Phpenix Mesa Gateway the IATA code is AZA but that’s not what the FAA uses. ![]() The idea is to avoid confusion between DCA and IAD, IAH and HOU, DFW and DAL, etc. Two airports within the same region cannot have the same first and second, or second and third letters. Some airports kept National Weather Service codes when moving to 3 letter codes, and added an X (PDX, LAX, PHX).Codes beginning with W and K are reserved to avoid confusion with radio stations which is why MCI – Kansas City International – isn’t KCI (but local media refers to it frequently as KCI).Airport codes beginning with N are reserved for naval air stations (so “Newark is EWR”) Seth Kaplan says Akron, Ohio – home to the football hall of fan – therefore cannot be ‘NFL’.But I suppose it's better than the zero bedding we were provided for the outbound redeye! These look good!ĭid your meatloaf taste like orange peels? The last chicken meatloaf I had on DL prob had half an orange's worth of shaved peel in the meat and that's ALL you tasted. On the most recent episode of the always-excellent “Airlines Confidential” podcast journalist Seth Kaplan and former Spirit Airlines CEO Ben Baldanza were talking about airport codes and they shared several things I wasn’t aware of, though perhaps have heard in passing before. I hope they reconsider that offering moving forward. It was the new Co-Z-Z-Z bedding, though, which I found far too thin and insubstantial it would be much more at home in premium economy than business class, and I think it's a huge downgrade from the old Westin bedding. On the plus side, getting rebooked via JFK meant we were no longer in faux Delta One, so bedding was catered. But I suppose it's better than the zero bedding we were provided for the outbound redeye! So no data on the actual menu description of these. These were not our preordered choices because - shocker - our original BOS-SEA flight was cancelled. The salad was a goat cheese salad that I really enjoyed, and the cheesecake dessert was much better than the cream/pudding affair we were served on the outbound flight from SEA. ![]() I wouldn't say either was a stand out memorable star - the short rib was pretty bland and the potatoes were blander despite looking great - but both were entirely reasonable cuisine I wouldn't complain about on an international flight. The focaccia was a little overcooked, but the meatloaf had a solid crowd pleasing marinara flavor and the short rib was fairly tender.
